Dear Parents,

The excitement for a new school year is building. I hope your family is continuing to have a fun and relaxing summer. I spent my July vacationing for a week in Maui, enjoying Lake Tahoe for a week and building a firepit and patio with my son in our backyard.

This year we will continue to focus on the implementation of Readers Workshop. We will also be focusing on student discourse. Talking supports a student’s critical thinking. When students talk they can hear their own thinking and the thinking of others which helps them change and shape their thinking. We be looking for new and exciting ways to get kids talking.

One of the biggest changes this year is the move throughout the Moraga School District to a full day kindergarten. Starting this year the kindergarten schedule will be the same as the first and second grade schedule. The increased time will allow teachers to go more in depth into subject matter while still allowing students to build social bonds and play.

Another change at Camino Pablo will be the addition of an early intervention preschool in Room B (in the kindergarten pod). The pre-school serves special education students between the ages of three to five in Moraga and Orinda.

As we start a new school year we say goodbye to some treasured staff members and hello to new additions to the CP family:

• Karol Robinson will move from 1st grade  to 4th grade

• Lauren Koeberer will be joining the CP 5th Grade Team (replacing Stan Mathews who is on leave)

• Emily Robinson will be the long term sub for Jaime Sherman in TK (maternity leave)

• Hilary Gambetta is our new speech teacher

• Max Jent is the new TK-3 Music teacher and 4th/5th strings teacher (replacing Sara Stafford)

• Lauren Arvindan is the new Choir Teacher (replacing Zack Barbieri)

• Linda Steuer is one of the early intervention preschool teachers

• Lily Lopez is our other early intervention preschool teacher

Camino Pablo is an amazing place. I look forward to working with each of you in the coming year to help make CP a fun, enriching, safe, and rigorous learning environment for our students.
