READING IS OUT OF THIS WORLD!

WELCOME TO THE LIBRARY!

The library shelves are packed, and books are ready and waiting to be checked out!  We look forward to another great year, meeting new families and reconnecting with those returning.  This web page will be updated periodically with library happenings and highlights.

Library Skills Update

Our 4th and 5th graders have been very busy in their library skills classes this trimester!  The 4th graders developed their atlas skills by "Globetrotting" around the world.  They were grouped into teams and answered questions in game style fashion.  Very fun!

Fifth graders worked on their research skills by gathering facts on a given subject from four types of reference books.  They then completed a bibliography of the sources they used.  We also had a very good discussion about plagiarism using real life situations.

CALIFORNIA YOUNG READER MEDAL (CYRM)

Each year our students participate in choosing the winner of the CYRM.  Over the next few weeks we will be reading the nominees for the 2011 award.  Once we have read each selection, every student will vote for his/her favorite.  Votes are then tallied and sent off to the CYRM organization.  Students eagerly await the announcement of the winners in May!  Below are this year's nominees:

A Visitor for Bear by Bonnie Becker
